The Toronto Design Offsite Festival

Design Unseen

BRIEF

Design is commonly defined as a methodical approach to the solution of a problem—yet there is no universal system for achieving a design solution. Each person has their own practice, techniques, and tools. Final products often eclipse the research, inspirations, materials, failures, and happy accidents encountered through the creative journey. This exhibition aims to expose unseen creative processes, while asserting the value of design, which are often discounted in a culture that gives precedence to the end result. It asks whether process is as critical (if not more so) than a design in its final form.

We invite submissions from creatives working in the field of graphic design and communications. We are open to objects and materials expressed in 2- or 3-dimensions, digital or analog.

Submissions from existing work or realized projects are preferred; however, submissions of speculative work and projects that have not yet been realized will also be considered.

Work and projects will be exhibited during the Toronto Design Offsite Festival (TO DO), January 18–27, 2019.

SCHEDULE

All submissions are due Friday, September 21, 2018 by 11:59pm EST.

Successful submissions will be notified by email by October 22, 2018
